I used to be very, very anti-sweatpants. I wouldn't be caught dead in sweats, and I rarely even wore sweats around the house. Any soft, baggy pants that I acquired would be hand-me-downed (or rather, up) to my sister. However, over the summer, interning at PINK and working with loungewear made me really appreciate sweats. I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I wear sweats all the time. Sometimes, I wear the same sweats two days in a row. I even wear them to (gasp) CLASS. Yes, at fashion school. My belief used to be that wearing sweatpants was a sign of defeat. Who taught me that? King Karl Lagerfeld.
He once said, “Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants.” I used to believe that. That quote even used to be my cover photo on Facebook, because I was THAT passionate about not wearing sweatpants. Now, I believe the opposite to be true. Now, I see sweatpants as a sign of strength. Wearing sweatpants means that you are unafraid to wear a piece that may not be the sexiest or form-flattering, but you are confident enough to wear them and still find a way to look great. Plus, if you can style sweatpants to not look sloppy or lazy, you are pretty much a fashion all star. Sorry Karl!
